  "After installing the application, type any text you want and simply hit the "123″ button on your keyboard to show the copy/paste buttons. Tap "copy" and start selecting the text you want to copy. Tap "copy" again to end the selection. Then tap "paste" to paste this text where you want it to be." This implementation isn't up to Apple's standards for grace and ease, but it seems workable.

• Turning a protected RTSP stream into an iTunes podcast
  A friend of mine does a radio show that interests me. Unfortunately, being a late night show (midnight) and interstate, for me to listen to this live would require me being awake at 4am or so. Due to record label copyright permissions, this show is not available as a podcast download -- it's only available for live or delayed streaming. Undeterred, I wanted to automatically grab the stream and make it available on my iPhone for listening when it suited me, while out and about.

• Create session-only cookies in Safari in 10.5.6
  For most of the history of Safari, although the browser did not provide a way of erasing all cookies at shutdown, the facility could be emulated by setting one's ~/Library » Cookies » cookies.plist file to "read only" (see this hint). Since cookies are stored in memory until the browser shuts down, the result was a perfectly normal browser session with no cookies carried to the next session.

  This ability went away with 10.5, as a read-only cookie file caused random issues at most sites requiring a login cookie. There was no option but to reset the cookie.plist file to read/write, and delete them by hand every now and then.

  The problem has been resolved in 10.5.6, but the technique for achieving it is slightly different -- you now must set the containing folder to read-only, not the file. Read on for a detailed walkthrough, if you need it...

  Enable hidden Picture Frames in Pages '09
  
  
  Based on a previous blog post, I have discovered the location of the hidden Picture Frames used in Pages '09 (and the other iWork '09 apps), and the plist file that determines which ones are accessible. You can use Picture Frames by selecting an object in Pages, opening the Inspector, clicking on the Graphic button, and choosing Picture Frame in the Stroke drop-down menu. The Picture Frames that are available by default leave out a bunch of Picture Frames that are installed as part of Apple's templates.

  MacWorld fever has come and gone. It has been a roller-coaster ride for most Mac users, I reckon. HRH Steve Jobs was absent from the very last Apple keynote at MacWorld. Phil kind of disappointed me with a poor performance and product release during the keynote. Maybe I expected too much from it all.
